Hands-on Lab

A hands-on lab, also referred to as a “lab”, is a learning experience in Qwiklabs where you complete a scenario based use case by following a set of instructions in a specified amount of time in an interactive hands-on environment.

Labs are completed in the real GCP console, as opposed to a simulation or demo environment.

Most labs require credits to access, however there are a number of free introductory labs available as well.

Although all popular browsers are supported, for the best user experience we highly recommend using the latest version of Chrome OS.

Please check your device here for compatibility

Challenge Lab

A challenge lab is a hands-on lab that does not provide prescriptive steps and requires solutions to be built with minimal guidance.

It is a summative assessment at the end of a skill badge quest.

Quests

A quest is a learning path that contains a number of hands-on labs. Complete a quest to earn a badge.

A quest is a collection of hands-on labs that teaches you how to use a product or tool.

Quests range in difficulty from introductory to advanced and do not include a challenge lab.

Learners receive a digital badge upon completion of the quest.

If a lab is included in multiple Quests, that lab completion will carry over to each Quest.

This means that you will never have to complete a lab twice if it has already been completed.

How to start a Quest

Everytime you take a Quest, you will access the Google Cloud console with temporary credentials.

To start a quest, all you need to do is:

  1. Open a new internet browser.
  1. Sign in to your Google Cloud Skills Boost account
  1. Select a Quest of your choosing by either browsing the Google Cloud Skills Boost catalog or using the search bar. To find a Quest in the catalog:

4 .You are then taken to the Quest manual page, which includes all the directions for the Quest. Click Enroll in this Quest

  1. You are then automatically taken to the first lab in the quest. The timer located in the upper left corner of the screen shows the total time you have to complete the lab

  2. Click Start Lab.

Labs that appear in multiple Quests

Lab completion is recognized across all Google Cloud Skills Boost Quests.

For example, if you complete “Creating Cloud Instances for Windows” in one quest, you receive lab completion credit for that same lab across all Google Cloud Skills Boost Quests that contain the “Creating Cloud Instances for Windows” lab.

Courses

Google Cloud Skills Boost offers classroom-based and on-demand courses.

A course is a series of training modules contained in a single unit that is packaged to be consumed in its entirety.

Each training module contains multiple activities, including videos, readings, quizzes, and labs.

Courses can be delivered on-demand and vary in length depending on subject matter and complexity.

Find a course

Courses can be discovered in 2 ways: using the search bar or the catalog filters.

To use the catalog filters you need to:

Click the catalog page.

Under filter, select Format > Course.

Click the name of a course of your choosing.

For each lab, you have access to a cloud console for the duration of the lab.

Every time you take a lab, you will be given temporary credentials to access the lab environment.

To start a lab, all you need to do is:

  1. Open a new internet browser.
  1. Sign in to your Qwiklabs account
  1. Select a lab of your choosing by either browsing the catalog page or using the search bar. To find a lab in the catalog:
