When we are told to make something pretty, do we stop and think about its functionality, or just take pride in its appearance?

When the pandemic changed our world a year ago everything went virtual. Many discovered that, while their websites were very attractive, they weren’t as functional and user friendly as they intended. KC Women’s Ministry presents “Websites and Disabilities: building an inclusive and accessible website for your business,” by Software Engineer Jaime Mackey. Mackey will discuss how the layout and design of websites can make them less inclusive for some populations, and ways to fix this issue.

The best part of this program is you don’t have to be a technical genius to understand its contents. This presentation is designed for everyone with basic computer skills.

After the presentation you will be able to ensure your website is accessible to everyone, including those with short or long-term disabilities and people in different living situations or environments.

“Building a website with the sole purpose of making it look pretty excludes many users by making it harder for them to navigate and use,” Mackey said. “When you design with inclusivity as the priority you prevent excluding many demographics from your audience. Designing accessible web pages creates a more user friendly experience for all people.”

It’s important to make sure your website is friendly to all abilities because while there are signs the term social distancing might soon start becoming a thing of the past, the virtual opportunities created by pandemic probably won’t go away.
