A few plastic pots (like margarine), some soil, a spoon, tap water and some seeds: that's all it takes to start a small urban garden, a fascinating and even financially rewarding hobby. With practically zero cost and very little available space, it is possible to become independent in various products, such as spices and teas – just ask for some seedlings from family members or neighbors. Logically, the more space, time, disposition and resources, the more elaborate the crops become.

Even though mass agriculture is related to the countryside, it is a mistake to restrict it in this way absolutely. Agriculture and urbanism were born on the same day, because the moment when man created the first village was also the moment when he made the first sowing. Before that we were hunter-gatherers, ten thousand years ago. We classify both community gardens and home plantations as urban gardens, both types having equal importance in terms of the benefits they bring.

This course consists of content narrations in Portuguese on simple backgrounds, with English subtitles. Although there are many scientific articles within supplementary materials, which makes the course suitable for specialists, the main core was made thinking of general public, who wishes to improve their gardening knowledge and thus have an international vision about the matter.
