Steam turbines
are one of the most important types of turbines used in electric power plants. It is a mechanical device that extracts heat energy from vapor pressure, and converts it into rotating motion. Its modern look was invented by Sir Charles
Parsons in 1884 It almost
replaced the piston steam engine. This is primarily due to the increase in its thermal efficiency and the increase in the energy generated from it in relation to weight Because turbines generate rotating motion, they are particularly well suited to be used to rotate generators that produce electricity at a large scale in power stations about 80% of the
world's electricity is generated by
the use of steam turbines. This applies to power plants that run on coal oil or nuclear reactors, as they all convert the heat of the fuel into high pressure steam, and by means of a steam turbine the steam turbine is operated and with it the electric generator rotates producing electrical energy that operates factories and supplies electricity to homes. Solar power plants are also based on heating water heating oil, or heating salts. They heat the water with the heat of the sun and turn it into steam, and from the steam the electric current is produced by a turbine and an electric generator
