Welcome to "Personality 101: Understanding Past, Present, and Future You"! Students need no prior knowledge or experience for this class, but a curiosity about psychology and the self is encouraged.

"Personality 101: Understanding Past, Present, and Future You" is a comprehensive overview of personality psychology mixed with modern, but research-backed, self-help. My mission is to teach you the fundamentals of personality psychology and couple it with two different personality assessments so that you can apply it to your own life. By the end of this class, you will walk away with valuable insights about your personality and the personalities of those around you, the role personality has played in your past, and how you can best optimize your strengths for the future. My hope is that you will have a deeper understanding of the various forces that have shaped you into the person you are today.

In the first segment of this class, we will explore the various influences on the formation of our personalities, how personality develops throughout the lifespan, and 4 philosophical perspectives on personality. We'll be diving into the ways in which biology and culture each uniquely influence our beliefs and behaviors. We will then transition into trait theory and take the Big 5 Personality Assessment to help us understand our own varying levels of key personality traits.

After interpreting the Big 5 results in class, students will take a strengths survey to assess their character strengths. The results of this survey are meant to make students more self-aware of their innate strengths so that they may optimize them in the future.

Students can also enjoy an extra module about the fascinating science of resiliency, and how promising resiliency research shows us how to live more meaningful and satisfying lives.
