Doing Business in Latin America
Join us in the course Doing Business in Latin America. In this course, you will learn about the characteristics of the biggest multilatinas, how they have built their domestic and international competitive advantage, and you will identify which are the challenges and innovations to achieve the sustainability of their superior economic performance. The course includes videos presenting and explaining the topics, learning and evaluation activities, interviews, reviews, reports, and additional bibliography. Assessment activities are designed so that you get feedback, which is saved in the platform, so that you can pick up where you left off when you go online again. Our educational focus enables meaningful and practical learning, in which students build knowledge through their own reflection, their own experience, and genuine cooperation with others. All the learning activities on the course were designed with these principles as a basis. We will guide you through a series of videos and practical assignments that will allow you to reflect on and understand the economic, social, and environmental challenges and opportunities that have allowed multilatinas to build their leadership in and from the Latin American region.
This course is for those who want to expand their knowledge about Latin American companies’ businesses. In particular, it is designed for those who want to understand how international success stories are built in the region and how many challenges have turned into opportunities for the business sector. This course does not require any previous knowledge and therefore it is especially relevant for people in academic training, who want to complement their studies or to have a space for reflection and interaction with others who are interested and experienced in this field. Finally, this course can be useful for professors in the field of international business and strategy, who want to gain in-depth knowledge about multilatinas and companies in Latin America.
At the end of this course, you will understand thoroughly the most important concepts regarding internationalization topics. You will understand the opportunities offered by the Latin American context that has forced multilatinas to become resilient, to create new value propositions in their activities, and often to rethink the role they play in the territories where they operate. In the final assignment, you will record a video in which you will make a summary of the advantages of doing business in the Latin American region, based on what you have reflected on and learned. This way you will demonstrate your capacity of giving a precise, informed and revealing opinion about the topic.
The course is designed to last 4 weeks with a workload of 6-7 hours per week, but you can take as long as you need. All the information about your participation and progress will always be available and updated on Coursera. You can pick up in the activities you left off. For example, you can watch a video as many times as you want, pause it to take notes or put it off while you consult some of the additional bibliography that we provide you with. Finally, this course is part of the specialization Doing Business in Latin America, created by Universidad de los Andes, Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. We invite you to take the other two courses if you have not yet taken them.

FAQ
What will I get if I purchase the Certificate?
When you purchase a Certificate you get access to all course materials, including graded assignments. Upon completing the course, your electronic Certificate will be added to your Accomplishments page - from there, you can print your Certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile. If you only want to read and view the course content, you can audit the course for free.
When will I have access to the lectures and assignments?
Once you enroll for obtaining a certificate, you will have access to all videos, quizzes and scheduled assignments (if it applies). Assignments graded by classmates can only be sent and checked once you begin your session. If you want to explore the course without buying it, it is possible that you do not have access to specific assignments.
What happens if I need more time for completing the course?
No problem: the course schedule is flexible and paying for it will give you a 180-day complete access to the course and eligibility for the certificate. Self-managed courses have suggested deadlines, but there will not be any penalty if you miss them, as long as you earn your certificate within the 180-day period. Courses based on sessions may require you to meet deadlines, so that you can keep up to date, but if you fall behind, you can change to a new session. In that case, we will transfer the work you already completed.
What will I get in return if I pay for this course?
If you pay for this course, you will have access to all the functions and content needed to get a course certificate. If you complete it correctly, a digital certificate will be added to your Achievements site. There you will be able to print it or add it to your LinkedIn profile. Bear in mind that the course certificate does not represent academic credits from the associated institution offering the course.
Can I take this course for free?
This course does not have a 7-day free trial with full access, but you can participate as an auditing student in videolessons and some course contents for free. If you want to complete the course and get a course certificate by sending assignments for obtaining a diploma, you can pay for the course for enhancing your experience. You can also ask for financial aid if you do not have the resources to afford the fee.
What is the refund policy?
You can request a complete refund within the first two weeks after your payment date or (for the courses recently launched) within the first two weeks after beginning the first session of the course. You cannot get a refund after earning a course certificate, even if you complete the course within the 2- week refund period. Take a look to our complete refund policy.
Is financial aid available?
Yes! Coursera provides financial aid to students who wish to complete a course but cannot afford the fee. Apply for it by clicking on “Get more information and request financial aid” in the Financial Aid link beneath the "Enroll" button on the left. You will be prompted to complete a simple application; no other process will be needed.
Do I have to pay for enrolling in the course?
By enrolling in the course, you can select the option that works the best for you, whether it is as an audit, in which case you will have access to the course for free; or as a certifiable learner, in which case you will have to complete some additional compulsory assignments and meet other requirements of the platform (i.e., identity verification when completing compulsory assignments, getting the minimum percentage to pass the course and paying Coursera directly the certificate fee given in the platform).
Who issues the certificate and how can I earn it?
The participation certificate is issued directly by Coursera. You can earn it as long as you meet the following four requirements: completing all the additional compulsory assignments, verifying your identity when completing them, getting the minimum percentage for passing the course and paying the fee given by the platform.
How can I pay for the certificate?
Once you meet the requirements for earning a certificate, you must make the payment directly to Coursera. Bear in mind that currently platforms only accept payments with international credit cards, but we hope they enable more options soon. In case you do not have this payment method (international credit card), you can request financial aid directly with the platform by clicking on the option “Learn more and apply” in the Financial Aid link beneath the "Enroll" button on the left. You will be prompted to complete a simple application; no other process or document will be needed.
What information does the certificate contain?
The participation certificate is issued with both the Los Andes University and the platform logotype. It accounts for the participation of the student in the course by indicating the estimated weekly workload and is signed by the university professor. In no case will the certificate represent academic credits that can be validated for in-person or hybrid programs at a university.
I have problems with my account, my enrollment and access to the course, the payment or earning the certificate, who can help me?
Anything related with your Coursera account, your enrollment and access to the course, among others, should be solved directly with the platform. Therefore, we advise you to contact them (in Spanish or English) through the “Learner Help Center” in: https://learner.coursera.help/hc/es/categories/201216173#section_0.
I had to stop my studies and do not know how to pick up where I left off, how can I do it?
The course is designed so that you can progress at your own pace. If you must suspend and want to pick up afterwards, you just need to enter the course as you used to and continue, or start it again so that you can recall what you had already done. Do not worry if the platform shows you that assignments are due, it is only a guide. Bear in mind, however, that the group of students with which you began the course may have already made more progress, so it is possible that no one is actively participating on the forums or peer-reviewed activities. If you want to join another group that is currently active, you just need to switch to another session, by clicking on the “Reset my deadlines” button on the color stripe above the Overview option in the course.
